SEND Home to School Travel Policy Review

The SEND travel policy has been reviewed and rewritten in line with new Department for Education guidance. It has also been updated to clarify the eligibility criteria and to outline all travel support options for SEND children and young people more clearly.
This policy review aims to:
• make the information easier for parents and carers to understand
• make it easier for consistent decisions to be made
• ensure we are aligned with the DfE requirements
• ensure we are making the most efficient use of resource

Consultation process

We have created a webpage with all relevant information about what we are consulting on and why, as well as an online questionnaire. We have also planned 6 in-person events, 3 of which are with Bath Parent Carer Forum. We have written directly to all parent/carers who have a child/young person receiving SEND Travel support. All Rainbow Resource card holders (our Disabled Children’s Register) and all Bath Parent Carer Forum members have been contacted by email. Information has also been shared on several Social Media accounts, both Council managed and Bath Parent Carer Forum.

Consultees

The guidance issued by the DfE (Department for Education) states that we must consult:
• members of the public with children or young people currently receiving SEND Home to School Travel support
• members of the public with children or young people who may receive SEND Home to School Travel support in the future
• Bath Parent Carer Forum
• schools that may have children or young people affected by this policy (including schools in Bristol, South Glos, and North Somerset)
