Issue details
The addition of a ‘28 days’ notice to remove tables and chairs from the highway during large events condition’ on Tables and Chairs Permits
From time to time, Bath and North East
Somerset Council hosts events such as the Bath Half Marathon,
Remembrance Services and Christmas Markets. These events provide
value and an economic boost to the local economy. As these events
attract many people, there is also potential for conflict between
the attendees/spectators and street furniture/tables and chairs
placed on the highway. To avoid overcrowding and reduce
restrictions on ease of movement in busy areas, the Council has
consulted on opinions relating to the use of a condition on Tables
and Chairs Permits and Pavement Licenses that will enable the
authority to give 28 days’ notice in writing for licence
holders to remove their furniture from the highway.
