Decision details
Area 7 Radstock/Westfield 20mph TRO
Decision Maker: Cllr Caroline Roberts
Decision status: Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: Yes
Purpose:
Determination of Traffic Regulation Orders for 20mph speed limits within the Radstock/Westfield wards (Area 7) following statutory consultation
Decision:
The Cabinet Member agrees that the speed limit order is approved as advertised, with the following exceptions:-
· exception of First/ Second/ Third and Fourth Avenues;
· addition of Boundary Close, Charlton Park and Grange End shown on the advertised TRO plan, but not on the schedule, as intended;
· Reduction in length of Charlton Lane, such that 20mph speed limit is imposed from its junction with A367 Fosseway South for 150m in a south easterly direction.
Reasons for the decision:
A 20mph speed limit is recommended as other authorities which have introduced 20mph speed limits have evidence to show that it has beneficial effects. They include benefits to the environment, and it can encourage more walking and cycling.
Alternative options considered:
The option of implementing 20mph Speed Limit Zones using traffic calming measures was considered. A scheme based on this option would be impractical and unsuitable because of the close proximity of buildings and the cost.
