Decision details
Wellow Village 20mph Speed Limit
Decision Maker: Cabinet Single-Member Decision
Decision status: Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: Yes
Purpose:
In 2002, as part of a Section 106 agreement, funding was secured to be used in Wellow as a traffic management contribution for the provision of a 20mph speed limit zone. A number of traffic calming options were agreed and the 20mph speed limit will be the final element of these traffic calming measures.
Decision:
The Cabinet Member agrees that:
The Order is made and a Notice is published to that effect.
The objector is informed accordingly that the proposals are to be implemented as advertised, under sections 84(1) and 84(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended)
Reasons for the decision:
The roads within Wellow village are currently unrestricted. A 20mph speed limit is proposed to be imposed within the village, following developer contribution that was secured in 2001.
The imposition of the new speed limit will complement the traffic calming measures that were installed in September 2010.
The existing road environment is such that, if installed, the new speed limit will not require unreasonable levels of enforcement by the Police. Existing traffic figures suggest that it will be appropriate to the area and beneficial in road safety and environmental terms and could also encourage more cycling (the National Cycle Network Route 24 goes through Wellow) and walking. The proposal is therefore in line with the Council’s priorities.
