Purpose:
The Stall Street vaults adjacent to the Roman
Baths are currently safely secured with temporary propping and
traffic management measures in place. A long-term solution is
required for the ongoing maintenance of the vaults, ensuring their
structural stability and future use, and to fully re-open the
street to vehicular movement at ground level.
Decision:
To fully approve allocation of a £2m
budget to identify and deliver long-term remediation to the Stall
Street vaults, including options analysis, design and
implementation of the required interventions.
Alternative options considered:
To not proceed with budget allocation as
outlined below, and continue to monitor temporary propping and
traffic management arrangements. This would fail to address the
structural issues identified in initial investigations and incur
ongoing revenue costs to the Council.
