Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

This decision is for approval of £93.7k grant contribution towards the Canal and River Trust project costs to upgrade the canal tow path between Bathwick Hill and Deeplock, Widcombe. This section of the canal towpath is a popular walkway which currently deteriorates during wet weather and the plan is to improve its surface for regular all year use. The project will improve the surface condition of 650m of towpath between Bathwick Hill and Deep Lock. The project is likely to be completed in stages, as funding allows. Work is due to begin in summer 2023.

Decision:

To fully approve capital budget of £93.7k grant for the Canal and River Trust being funded by £50k Strategic CIL, £40k WECA funding and £3.7k of Developer S106 Contribution.

Alternative options considered:

If we do not contribute towards the upgrade there is a risk it will not proceed.
