Road Safety Initiative - Installation and Re-commission Speed Enforcement Cameras

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member - Transport

Decision status: Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

Due to vehicles speeding in excess of the 30mph limit speed enforcement cameras will be installed / recommissioned at Temple Cloud, Writhlington, Farmborough and Pensford.

Decision:

The Cabinet Member agrees that the £120,000 provisional budget in the 2016/17 capital programme be fully approved to implement Road Safety Initiatives, at Pensford, Farmborough, Writhlington and Temple Cloud.

Reasons for the decision:

The proposal aims to cause a reduction in traffic speed at locations where traffic speed in excess of the speed limit and is known to be a road safety risk.  The intended outcome is thus a reduction in traffic speed and a corresponding improvement in road safety

Alternative options considered:

The alternative method of speed reduction is by physical measures, such as build-outs and road humps/ tables.  These features are not supported on arterial roads as they disrupt traffic flows.
