Decision details

Proposed parking restrictions - North Road, Combe Down TRO

Decision Maker: Cllr Caroline Roberts

Decision status: Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

Whether to add double yellow lines along a part of North Road.  These are being proposed to aid visibility as part of the development of the Rockery Tea Gardens.  If objections are received, a Cabinet decision will be required.

Decision:

The Cabinet Member agrees that the proposal should not go ahead.

Reasons for the decision:

The existing situation is seen to help the residents and visitors to the site.  The cars help to slow down traffic on the road, making it safer for residents to use their driveways, while also providing a barrier to protect pedestrians walking along the pavement.  The parking is also used by visitors to Rainbow Woods and the Skyline Walk, so can be said to encourage outdoor activities and exercise.

Alternative options considered:

The police suggested mirroring the restriction on the opposite side of the road, but this would have caused even more upset for the locals, and not had any impact on the visibility from the site.
