Decision details
Capital Projects Approval - CCTV Security at Waste Sites
Decision Maker: Cabinet Single-Member Decision
Decision status: Approved
Is Key decision?: Yes
Is subject to call in?: Yes
Purpose:
Approval of capital projects for inclusion in the capital programme, not previously approved by Council in the Budget.
There has been an increase in thefts from waste sites resulting in damage to property and vehicles and to financial losses due to theft of diesel and other goods. Installation of CCTV would improve the overnight security arrangements for the Waste Operations depots and would produce efficiency savings through stopping the mobile patrols currently employed from an external security company.
Decision:
The Cabinet Member agrees that Capital funding of £55,000 is allocated to purchase the CCTV equipment, and that Waste Services fund the Service Supported borrowing charges.
Reasons for the decision:
Buying CCTV equipment for the Waste sites is the better option than continuing with the current arrangement of external mobile patrols. CCTV should be an effective deterrent to intruders and will produce efficiency savings as well as carbon benefits of less miles travelled around the district for mobile patrols.
Alternative options considered:
Continuing the current arrangements of external mobile patrols is not considered to give as good value or overall effectiveness for the security of the sites.
