CRSTS Canal Towpath – Bathwick Hill to Horseshoe Walk - Additional Funding

Decision Maker: Executive Director - Sustainable Communities

Decision status: Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

This decision is for approval of £165k grant contribution towards the Canal and River Trust project costs to complete the upgrade to the surface of the canal tow path between Bathwick Hill and Horseshoe Walk. This section of the canal towpath is a popular walkway which is in poor condition and deteriorates further during wet weather. The plan is to improve its surface for regular all year use. Work will be completed by June 2026.

Decision:

To fully approve capital budget of £165k, this is additional grant for the Canal and River Trust to add to the previously approved funding of £130k. The £165k will be funded by grant from the Mayoral Combined Authority’s CRSTS (City Regional Sustainable Transport Scheme) as part of the Bath Sustainable Walking, Wheeling & Cycling project. This is subject to MCA approval and will be underwritten from BANES capital contingency pending MCA grant approval.
