Purpose:

Secretary of State approval is required for the disposal of a residential ownership which is subject to a statutory tenancy. B&NES are the freehold owners of a two bed detached house which is surplus to the Corporate Estate and will be seeking approval from the Secretary of State to undertake a disposal.

Decision:

To delegate authority to the Head of Corporate Estate & Development to submit an application to the Secretary of State for approval to dispose of the asset.

Reasons for the decision:

The asset is surplus to council requirements and carries a financial liability due to the requirement to undertake structural and essential annual mechanical and electrical repairs.

 

The asset is on the Corporate Estate’s disposals list as part of the programme to rationalise surplus property holdings and generate capital receipts.

 

To undertake a disposal Secretary of State approval is required.

Alternative options considered:

Consideration was given to retaining the asset as part of the disposals process.
