Decision details
Expansion of Temporary Accommodation Scheme
Decision Maker: Director of Capital & Housing Delivery
Decision status: Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Purpose:
The Council will expand its temporary
accommodation by using two additional properties located on New
Bond Street and Hot Bath Street in Bath. One was a Curo leased
property returned to the Council, and the other is now vacant. Both
need repairs and refurbishment to reduce reliance on hotel type
accommodation. The decision also includes purchasing another
property "off the market" for temporary housing as part of the
Government-funded Local Authority Housing Fund (LAHF) (Decision
E3531: Local Authority Housing Fund Round 3).
Decision:
To fully approve capital amounting to
£505k from the Government's Homelessness Prevention Grant and
Local Authority Housing Fund to expand temporary accommodation
provision.
Alternative options considered:
Sell both Council properties on the open
market and not purchase another property off the market for
temporary housing as part of the Government-funded Local Authority
Housing Fund. However, this option would not reduce the
Council’s resilience in relation to its statutory
homelessness duties and would mean LAHF funding would need to be
repaid.
