Decision details
Victoria Art Gallery Roof Refurbishment
Decision Maker: Director of Capital & Housing Delivery
Decision status: Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Purpose:
To fund the completion of committed
refurbishment of Victoria Art Gallery Roof. Access to the roof for
inspection was not possible prior to the erection of scaffold both
internally and externally and following inspection additional work
has been identified to undertake essential repair to replace roof
slates at the end of their life. This work will considerably extend
the life of the roof to protect the investment in the Victoria Art
Gallery and its collection. 2024/25 budget approval for £855K
is requested, funded £618k from contingency and £237k
from an existing Corporate Estate Planned Maintenance budget
allocation, noting £145K of prior year spend.
Decision:
To fully approve capital budget in 2024/25
amounting to £618k from capital contingency and at the same
time re-allocate £237 from the existing budget for Corporate
Estate Planned Maintenance, noting a £145k prior year
spend.
Alternative options considered:
Do nothing - but the Council has a
responsibility to maintain the roof and ensure that the asset does
not present an increased health and safety risk to users and
staff.
Curtail the scope - to limit replacement, however access costs to
scaffold form a large component of the budget so undertaking the
extended works now represent better value for money long
term.
