Purpose:
The Old Post Office building needs to be
redesigned as a new museum with planning and listed building
consent required prior to implementation of the building
renovation. This funding supplements the Milsom Quarter Delivery
WECA grant funding and supports the appointment of a design team
(architectural and exhibition design), alongside specialist
technical input and surveys. This will enable the detailed design
of the Fashion Museum for fit out to include exhibitions, a retail
space and cafe, wayfinding, signage and access. It will create an
efficient layout for safe and optimal use of space.
Decision:
To fully approve capital budget amounting to
£288k funded from corporate borrowing from the Project
Inception Fund.
Alternative options considered:
The Council could do nothing but this would
result in delay to the capital programme for Fashion Museum
Renovation.
