Decision details
Somervale School Resource Base
Decision Maker: Director of Education Transformation
Decision status: Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Purpose:
This capital project will provide Somervale
Secondary School with a new stand-alone building to open a
specialist Resource Base (RB). The RB will accommodate up to 20
pupils with special educational needs who will attend mainstream
school and receive additional specialist support at the RB. The RB
is planned to support pupils with emotional and anxiety issues and
for nurture.
Decision:
To fully approve the scheme to the value of
£1.264m. This is funded by £800k of Basic Need Grant,
£213k of Higher Needs Education Grant and £251k of
Developer Funding.
Alternative options considered:
Somervale School was proposed as a potential
site for a RB in the Midsomer Norton area. A feasibility study
exploring the options to provide new accommodation on the school
site was carried out. Midsomer Norton is an area of need for this
type of SEND provision and the feasibility study outcomes were that
this is a deliverable project within an acceptable budget. This RB
will also take children from the Nurture RB situated at St.
Nicholas Primary, Radstock therefore both bases being in the same
area adds to the reason this was the preferred option.
