Decision details
Expansion of Temporary Accommodation Scheme
Decision Maker: Director of Regeneration & Housing
Decision status: Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Purpose:
An opportunity has arisen to further extend
the Councils options for providing temporary accommodation
utilising two additional properties, these being in Westgate
Street, Bath and Parsonage Way, Bath. The Westgate Street property
has recently been handed back from Curo, is in poor condition and
will require some refurbishment, whilst the Parsonage Way property
is in an excellent condition and is will be transferred at book
value back from Aequus to the Council. This will: provide an
enhanced service for service users; reduce the Council's reliance
on expensive and out of district bed & breakfast accommodation;
and provide the Council with greater resilience in meeting
statutory obligations. The Single Member Decision (E3246 Supported
Housing Provision) provides an overview of the purpose and
rationale of temporary accommodation scheme provision.
Decision:
To fully approve capital amounting to
£186k from the Government Housing Prevention Grant to expand
temporary accommodation provision.
Alternative options considered:
Sell the Westgate Street on open market and
not purchase the Parsonage Way property. The selected option
increases the Council’s resilience in relation to its
statutory homelessness duties by increasing provision through
flexible high quality accommodation whilst maintaining
ownership.
