Purpose:
To fund early stage work to develop a business
case for the Fashion Museum Collection Study Centre. The
collection's home is currently at the Fashion Museum in premises
leased from the National Trust which must be vacated by March
2023.The proposed new Collection Study Centre will provide a home
for the collection and for the first time inclusively open it up
for researchers, designers, makers, start-ups, students and
communities, for physical and virtual access.
Decision:
To fully approve capital amounting to
£70k from the provisional programme item Project Inception
Fund of £489k.
Alternative options considered:
Without the initial work to develop the
proposals for the Collection Study Centre we will risk making a
poorly informed decision on future use. To place the collection in
accessible storage or to dispose of it would have unacceptable
impacts.
