Purpose:
The Monitoring Officer has agreed that a minor
amendment be made to Article 2 (Members of the Council) of the
Constitution to correct an inaccuracy. This Article states that the
age of eligibility to stand for election as a B&NES Councillors
is 21 years, when it should say 18 years.
The Electoral Services Manager was consulted and confirmed the
correct age as 18 years.
Decision:
To amend the reference to the age of
eligibility to stand as a B&NES Councillor from 21 years to 18
years, to ensure it reflects current legislation.
Alternative options considered:
Option 1 - Leave as is. Not viable as the
error needs correcting now that it has been brought to officers'
attention.
