Decision details
Response to Somerset County Council Minerals Planning Options Consultation
Decision Maker: Cabinet
Decision status: Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: Yes
Purpose:
Somerset County Council is at an early stage in the preparation of its new Minerals Core Strategy. It has published an options paper on which it is seeking comments. The deadline for comment is the 12 February 2012. This report sets out the comments of Bath & North East Somerset.
Decision:
(1) To AGREE that the assessment as set out at Appendix 1 of the report will form the basis of the response to the consultation on the Minerals Core Strategy Options Paper to be forwarded to Somerset County Council by 12th February 2012 to help inform the preparation of Somerset County Council’s draft Minerals Core Strategy; and
(2) To AGREE that the Council will monitor the traffic of Heavy Goods Vehicles passing from Somerset into North East Somerset.
Reasons for the decision:
Although there is an opportunity to comment at every stage in the development of the Minerals Core Strategy, it will become more difficult to influence its development at a later stage. It is therefore crucial that the Council responds now in order to influence local minerals policy and highlight any concerns this Council may have with regard any potential harmful impacts on Bath and North East Somerset’s key environmental assets.
Alternative options considered:
None
