Decision details
Determination of Statutory Notices to Enlarge Three Primary Schools in Bath, Radstock and Whitchurch
Decision Maker: Cabinet
Decision status: Approved
Is Key decision?: Yes
Is subject to call in?: Yes
Purpose:
Determine statutory notices proposing the enlargement of Bathwick St. Mary C of E Primary School, St. Nicholas' C of E Primary School and Whitchurch Primary School to create additional pupil places.
Decision:
RESOLVED (unanimously) that the Cabinet agreed:
1) Reject the proposed enlargement of Bathwick St. Mary C of E Primary School at this time to allow further discussion around school site issues to take place with the Governing Body.
2) Approve the enlargement of St. Nicholas’ C of E Primary School from 270 to 420 places.
3) Defer the decision in respect of the enlargement of Whitchurch Primary School from 206 to 315 places and delegate this decision to the Cabinet Member for Children’s Services to determine by 15th May as a Single Member Decision.
Reasons for the decision:
There is a need for additional primary school places to be provided to meet projected future demand from the local population in these areas due to population growth from new housing development either currently under construction or due to commence shortly. This is needed to ensure that the Council can meet its statutory duty to provide sufficient school places and for these to be in the area in which they are needed where the pupils will be living.
Alternative options considered:
As per the report.
