Statement from Bob Calleja to Bath Recreation Ground Trust meeting 8th October 2008

The Rugby Club is grateful to the Trustees for the progress which has been made relating to an agreement for the long term use of part of the Recreation Ground by the Club and it is pleasing that many items relating to how the benefits might outweigh the detriments of the Club's long term use have been agreed in principle. However, some fundamental issues concerning a new lease remain to be agreed.

In the current uncertain financial times, it is difficult for the Club to have a clear vision as to the future. However the underlying wish is to try to agree terms which will provide a firm basis to proceed with designs to obtain planning consent for any redevelopment.

Given this uncertainty and the probable length of time it may take to agree the terms and promote any redevelopment, the Club would therefore ask the Trustees to agree to the principle of extending the current lease of the extra land under the East Stand until the date of expiry of the current planning consent May 2011 i.e. two more seasons after this one.

This is an important request in the circumstances as it would give both the Trustees and the Club certainty of time to complete the current discussions and prepare appropriate design developments.

The Club would be grateful for confirmation from the Trustees that the Trustees' and the Club's consultants should now agree Heads of Terms in this regard for approval by the Trustees in the very near future
