Cabinet
Wednesday, 7th June, 2006

Dear Rob,

I understand this matter is to be referred to a meeting, possibly in April and the working party are keen to get this letter to you. However, I will also send a paper copy in the post today.

Regards,

Sue Heathman

Clerk

Dear Mr Scott,

With reference to the recent discussion in your offices between Councillors Tatham, Brewer and Dyson and yourself, the Parish Council thought it might be helpful to state their main objectives, and some recent historical background information for additional clarity, in support of pursuing the option of purchasing the field, currently known as the Football Field.

In 1980 a Lease Agreement was made between Wansdyke District Council and Stowey Sutton Parish Council whereby Wansdyke District Council would provide 4.3 acres of grass land in Bishop Sutton. This land (known as the Football Field) can only be used as a recreational ground for athletic sports and the playing of games for the benefit of the residents of the village.

Bishop Sutton AFC currently use this field and if Stowey Sutton Parish Council were allowed to purchase the land they would envisage that this use would continue under a 25 year sub lease arrangement with the Football Club. This would be consistent with Stowey Sutton Parish Council's recreational protection objective, whilst providing the current user - the Football Club - with the security of long term availability and use for amateur football.

Stowey Sutton Parish Council is keen to take up the offer made by Bath & North East Somerset Council regarding the purchase of the Football Field to ensure that this area is secured for the future for recreational purposes. The purchase would enable them to do so.

We look forward to hearing from you in due course.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs S Heathman

Clerk to the Council
