Progress / Issue Reporting

Main achievements progress since last report - December 2004 to February 2005

· Joint Local Transport Plan consultation progressing well

· "Bath package" of transport initiatives discussed at stakeholder events leading to a bid submission in July 2005

· Batheaston traffic calming measures and Freshford 20mph limit completed

· Car crime in car parks has fallen to an encouragingly low level

· Improved operational Parking management has increased parking fines revenue

· The Parking Service has been successful in obtaining quality accreditation, obtaining Investors in People and retaining Charter Mark

· A number of external organisations have been contacted to establish the potential for providing Parking policing and/or administration services

· District wide resurfacing works (£1.2 million) completed

· Land drainage policy signed approved

· Revising livery and branding designs proposed for Park & Ride buses as part of re-letting the contract - includes advertising on buses

· Abandoned vehicle amnesty removed 34 vehicles

· Cycle Trainers have completed first stage of new Cycle Standards Accreditation - Bath & N.E Somerset will be one of the first Authorities in the UK to have all trainers accredited

Planned Actions not achieved

· The problem caused by recreational motor vehicles (4WD & scramble bikes) on Byways Open to All Traffic appears to be growing, partly accelerated by seasonal weather conditions. Major remedial works are required on a number of routes, particularly in Stanton Prior and Woollard. Some form of control on use of these routes, for instance through a TRO, is being considered which may prove controversial

Potential Threats

B7 Possible lack of resources to contribute to major projects

B7 Poor condition of highway network

B7 Supported bus services tender bids recording 30% price increases

Development Opportunities

B7 Passenger Transport report published by joint O&S panel for Executive consideration
