6 NORTH AND WEST BATH REVIEW OF PRIMARY SCHOOLS - PANEL RECOMMENDATIONS

The Panel considered and made observations on a draft report prepared by the Chair to reflect the Panel's conclusions and recommendations following their review of the North & West Bath Primary Schools.

The Panel was advised that St Mary`s Catholic Primary School which was not represented at the meeting had indicated that the School welcomed the recommendations relating to it in the Panel`s report.

Councillor Roberts said that local residents as well as the School would appreciate the pedestrian crossing suggested and she was endeavouring to encourage the School to sign up to the Safe Routes to School charter so as to progress the crossing. On a general point she asked that the Green Spaces Strategy being developed and on which the Panel would have an input should address the issue of community use of school playing fields.

Anne Bull welcomed the recommendations relating to Weston All Saints Primary School and asked the Panel to make some factual corrections to the draft report which were agreed.

During discussion Panel Members asked that Education Officers should examine when drawing up plans for the proposed public green space on part of the site the range of options which this could mean.

Marion Miller referred to strong support being evident for links with the Church to be maintained among Newbridge St John`s CofE Infants School parents and prospective parents. The Panel acknowledged that this and other issues of interest or concern would emerge and be addressed during the consultation on the amalgamation. She also referred to the continuing problem of site security also mentioned in the Panel report. She asked the Panel to make some factual corrections to the draft report which were agreed.

The report as now amended was unanimously approved by the Panel for submission to the Council Executive.
