Progress / Issue Reporting

Main achievements progress since last report - July to November 2004

· Open Top Tour Buses - Legislation approved to control tour bus noise and emissions which should result in a reduction in the number of vehicles operating. A case is currently being prepared for the Traffic Commissioner to consider

· Sydney Gardens traffic scheme construction on programme

· Parking - visibility and environmental improvements in the car parks have reduced car crime in car parks; the police have once again acknowledged the efforts of the Parking Service in assisting to reduce car crime.

· Improved operational Parking management has increased parking fines revenue and automated telephony for payment of parking fines implemented 30th September

· A number of external organisations contacted to establish potential for Parking Services providing policing or administration. Interest from South Glos, RUH and Sainsbury's

· Passenger Transport (Headroom project) Overview & Scrutiny Review commenced with an informal member briefing prior to public consultation meetings. Three Councils were visited to research best practice, Market Research agreed.

· Local Transport Plan (LTP)- joint working established with the three other ex Avon authorities to produce joint LTP for 2006- 2011 - submission due in July 2005

· Greater Bristol Strategic Transport Study- land use scenarios agreed to test transport implications

· Park & Ride Service retender process was assisted by Commercial Services by the development of an in-house bid for comparative purposes.

· The trialling of Bio-diesel is continuing with the mix of 5% being increased to 10% in a council fuel tanks
