Decision details
Approval to refurbish the play area at Shakespeare Road, Westfield
Decision Maker: Director Environment
Decision status: Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Purpose:
Equipment in the play area at Shakespeare Road
in Westfield is nearing its end of life and needs replacing
shortly. Refurbishing and retaining the play area at Shakespeare
Road is a key objective in the area's neighbourhood plan and has
the support of Westfield Parish Council and both local ward
councillors. The Parks Service has allocated £75k from
developer's contributions (S106 funded) to the scheme and all costs
will be met from S106 contributions – making the project cost
neutral to the Council. This investment will also reduce ongoing
repair costs for the equipment; and maintenance of the play area
will be more efficient as it will be re-landscaped to require less
maintenance (play safety surface will replace grass wherever
possible).
Decision:
To fully approve capital amounting to
£75,000 from developer's contributions (S106 agreement
funded) for the replacement of end of life equipment and
refurbishment of the play area at Shakespeare Road,
Westfield.
Alternative options considered:
Option 1 - Alternatives to this scheme would
involve not replacing the play equipment when it reaches its end of
life (and decommissioning the play area) and returning the
developer's contributions to the developer.
Option 2 -
Option 3 -
