PAPER 2

E1970  Implementation of the Sustainable Communities Act in Bath & NE Somerset

Cllr Francine Haeberling

The Sustainable Communities Act is designed to allow local authorities and their communities to drive the help that central government gives in reversing community decline and promoting thriving, sustainable communities. The Act became law in October 2007. It defines the sustainability of local communities broadly, to include the local economy, environment, social inclusion, and participation in civic and political activity.  As part of implementing the Act, the Council is required to establish a community panel to appraise submissions from the public.  This reports sets out a proposal for the Local Strategic Partnership to act as the community panel for this initiative.
