DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST

At this point in the meeting declarations of interest are received from Members in any of the agenda items under consideration at the meeting. Members are asked to complete the green interest forms circulated to groups in their pre-meetings (which will be announced at the Council Meeting) to indicate:

(a) The agenda item number in which they have an interest to declare.

(b) The nature of their interest.

(c) Whether their interest is a disclosable pecuniary interest or an other interest,  (as defined in Part 2, A and B of the Code of Conduct and Rules for Registration of Interests)

Any Member who needs to clarify any matters relating to the declaration of interests is recommended to seek advice from the Council’s Monitoring Officeror a member of his staff before the meeting to expedite dealing with the item during the meeting.

ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE COUNCIL OR FROM THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE

These are matters of information for Members of the Council. No decisions will be required arising from the announcements.

The Chairman welcomed all former Councillors and their friends and family to the meeting and invited them to stay for the reception afterwards.  He also took the opportunity to send best wishes to former Councillor and Honorary Alderwoman Shirley Steele who had planned to attend but unfortunately had been taken ill that day.

76.

APPOINTMENT OF HONORARY ALDERMEN AND ALDERWOMEN

To consider recommendations from the Leader of the Council, following consultation with Group Leaders, that the status of Honorary Aldermen and Alderwomen should be conferred on those former Bath & North East Somerset Councillors as to be identified in the proposal to be moved at the meeting.

The Chairman invited Councillor Crossley, as Leader of the Council, to move the motion, which was seconded by Councillor Warren and supported by Councillors Laming and Bull.

 

It was then unanimously

 

RESOLVED that the former B&NES Councillors set out below should have conferred on them the title of Honorary Alderman or Alderwoman in recognition of their eminent and distinguished service both to this Council and its predecessor Councils;

Each former Councillor received a scroll and badge honouring their appointment from the Chairman and some words were said by current Councillors on behalf of each recipient, recognising their valuable contribution to this and predecessor Councils.
