Decision details

E2677R Naming of Streets in Keynsham Redevelopment Site

Decision Maker: Cllr Katie Hall

Decision status: Recommendations approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

The decision was the subject of a valid Call-in.  The Planning, Transport and Environment PDS Panel considered the Call-in at a meeting on 25th July 2014 and asked the Cabinet member to reconsider the original decision. The Cabinet member made the reconsidered decision on 1st August 2014.

Decision:

The Cabinet Member affirms her original decision not to object to the proposed name.

Reasons for the decision:

I listened to the comments made at the meeting on the 25th by all present who were concerned about my decision and carefully considered the grounds for the call-in, the officer comment on them (both contained in Appendix 4 of the report to the meeting) and the explanation put forward by the responsible Cabinet member, Councillor Bellotti.

It was clear to me that there were alternative suggestions that were not without merit. However I did not consider there was any justifiable criticism of the name proposed by the Developer or the reasoning behind the proposal and nor did I consider the name was in conflict with our Street Naming Policy.

I was clear the question I had to address was not whether there were other names that would be acceptable but whether the proposal was unacceptable. I concluded that it was acceptable and accordingly decided not to require the Developer to come forward with alternative names.

Alternative options considered:

The only other option available was to object to the proposals for naming the streets and for the reason set out above I concluded this was not justifiable.
